Two Information Boards have been designed and produced, to help visitors navigate the village, and for all to better appreciate what we have in Langham, in terms of landscape and heritage. The board at the Community Centre will be unveiled by Cllr Mark Cable, instrumental in obtaining the funds for their creation, on Saturday 6th July.

Boxted Airfield's 70 years

Langham Community Centre 2nd June 2013 10am-4pm

2013 is the 70th anniversary of Boxted Airfield becoming active. We are holding a special one-day event to commemorate this ... and of the impact that the arrival of 3,000 Americans had on a small village.

We will also remember the 98 airmen who lost their lives while serving at Boxted.

The full day programme includes a presentation on "The History of Boxted Airfield" by Richard Turner, Boxted Airfield Historian. John Camp, a trustee of Boxted Airfield Historical Group, will give a talk on the service history and preservation of the Marauder fuselage on display at the museum site.

The first group to fly from Boxted used the Marauder aircraft and Essex was known then as 'Marauder County'. Most of the veterans families attending have associations with the Marauders.

"Swing Machine Big Band" will play the music of the 1930s/40s.

Visiting veterans and their families, some from America and Canada, will talk about their connections with the airfield.

There will be a short break between each presentation so you can come and go as you please.

All the presentations will be less than one hour. For more details phone 01206 865275

Langham Tennis Club is hosting a "Rusty Racquets" day from 1pm on Sunday 28th April 2013.

Anyone at all, members, friends, etc, can join Mark Kleingeld & Ed Rudge, two of our club coaches, to see what it is like playing on our beautiful courts, and whether you would like to start playing or return to the sport. It is designed to be FUN - I expect the coaches will devise handicap matches & competitions. I promise that no-one will criticise anyone, and there will be many laughs!! Oldest racquet wins a prize. Spare (more modern) racquets available to borrow if needed. The afternoon will be entirely free. Doctor & nurse (that's Jacqueline & me) will be on hand for muscle strains!!

Warning about garden waste sacks.

Over the past several weeks, waste sacks have been stolen from the roadside in Langham Lane. The contents, leaves, were strewn across the road and the sacks taken. A white van was seen stopped in the road at this time.
